While Dante Alighieri did not invent the idea of Hell as a place of punishment for the wayward and sinful souls in the afterlife, he did create the most ââ¬Ëpowerful and enduringââ¬â¢ (Raffa 1) imagining of a concept which has received significant attention in biblical, classical, and medieval works. Danteââ¬â¢s Divine Comedy was written sometime between 1308 and 1321 and is considered ââ¬Å"the supreme work of Italian literatureâ⬠(Norwich 27). It is an epic poem divided into three separate se ctions: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso ââ¬Ë Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, respectively. The personal element of the journey through Hell in Danteââ¬â¢s Inferno literally explores the descent of one man into sin; through the use of poetic justice, both contemporary and historical figures, and mythological figures, Dante crafts an immediate and enthralling work dealing with the nature of sin and its place in society. The concept of poetic justice is famously explored in Inferno, where it is put to ââ¬Ëdramatic effectâ⬠¦ devising appropriate torments for each particular sinââ¬â¢ (Raffa 3). From Limbo to Treachery, Dante catalogues and documents the punishment of sinners both infamous and beloved, famous and unknown. In every case, the punishment fits the crime in a twisted and malignant fashion ââ¬Ë after all, the poem does discuss the realm of Satan, the Christian embodiment of evil. The nine circles of Hell described in Inferno are as follows: Limbo, Lust, Glutto ny, Avarice and Prodigality, Wrath and Sullenness, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery. These nine circles are based off of the idea of the Seven Deadly Sins, with some additions ââ¬Ë such as Limbo ââ¬Ë created by Dante. The poem begins with Dante lost in a dark wood, assailed by three beasts he cannot evade, and unable to move ââ¬Ëstraight alongââ¬â¢ (Dante 1.18) the road to salvation, represented by a mountain. A lion, a leopard, and a she-wolf ââ¬Ë symbolizing pride, envy, and avarice, respectively ââ¬Ë block Danteââ¬â¢s path to the top of the mountain, forcing him to descend into the depths of Hell with Virgil. The entire journey documented in the Divine Comedy is an allegory for manââ¬â¢s fall into sin before achieving redemption (represented by Purgatorio) and eventually salvation (represented by Paradiso). Before Dante even enters the gates of Hell, he is introduced to his guide for the first two realms of the afterlife, Inferno and Paradiso. For th is role, Dante chose Virgil (70-19 BCE), who lived under the rule of Julius Caesar and later Augustus during Romeââ¬â¢s transition from a republic into an empire, and is most famous for the Aeneid. Two episodes in Virgilââ¬â¢s work were of particular interest to Dante. Book IV tells the tale of Aeneas and Dido, the queen of Carthage, who kills herself when Aeneas ââ¬Ëabandons her to continue his journey andâ⬠¦ [found] a new civilization in Italyââ¬â¢ (Raffa 8). Book VI recounts Aeneasââ¬â¢ journey into Hades to meet the shade of his father and learn of future events in his journey. I learned that I do pretty well in this department that it is almost effortless on my part. But I have to admit that there are things about me that is un-leader like that I have to change such as my tendency to procrastinate. I observed that when I procrastinate, my team members also did the s ame. There are also certain things about my behaviour that I did not realize to be a leadership trait. Knowing that my team members in our community project are not being paid to do it, I invoked their higher sense of achieving and contributing good when I told them that what we are doing is for the community and that we will become an invariable part of it because we worked hard for a project dedicated to our community. The Chamber: A Look Into the Novel and Film Stories about crime prove to be a strong part of America's entertainment in this day. In The Chamber, John Grisham writes about a Klansman who is convicted of murder and a grandson who tries to save his grandfather is on death row. This story is now a major motion picture. This story carries a strong emotional following to it because it both questions and supports the death penalty in different ways. Grisham shows this when he writes: " ââ¬Ë I've hurt a lot of people, Adam, and I haven't always stopped to think about it. But when you have a date with the grim reaper, you think about the damage you've done.' " The messages about the death penalty are brought about in different ways in the film and in the novel. Although the novel and film adaptation of The Chamber have some significant differences, the plot and character perspectives are used to convey a political message about the death penalty. (378) The various characters in The Chamber have different traits and backgrounds that affect their perspectives on certain issues. Sam Cayhall is one of the main characters in the story whose background is filled with hate because of his connection with the Klan. "The second member of the team was a Klansman by the name of Sam Cayhall," "The FBI knew that Cayhall's father had been a Klansman, . . . " (Grisham 2-3). Sam, who is brought up under the influence of the Ku Klux Klan, uses "politically incorrect" terms for other minorities when he talks with Adam Cayhall in death row. " ââ¬Ë You Jew boys never quit, do you?' ", " ââ¬Ë How many nigger partners do you have?' " " ââ¬Ë Just great. The Jew bastards have sent a greenhorn to save me. I've known for a long time that they secretly wanted me dead, now this proves it. I killed some Jews, now they want to kill me. I was right all along.' " (Grisham 77-78). These statements reflect Sam Cayhall's intense hate for others which is derived from his young upbringing in the Ku Klux Klan. Sam's background as a Klansman is told by Grisham using Sam telling Adam about generations of Klan activity: " `Why did you become a Klansman?' `Because my father was in the Klan.' `Why did he become a Klansman?' `Because his father was in the Klan.' `Great. Three gene... ...onster, Ruth Kramer thinks David McAllister is a hero for demanding justice. These are the two sides of the coin which is the death penalty in The Chamber. As Grisham writes it, Ruth Kramer's situation is well described by Lee in this line: " ââ¬ËBitter? She lost her entire family. She's never remarried. Do you think she cares if my father intended to kill her children? Of course not. She just knows they're dead, Adam, dead for twenty-three years now. She knows they were killed by a bomb planted by my father, and if he'd been home with his family instead of riding around at night with his idiot buddies, little Josh and John would not be dead.' " (61). The Chamber is a story about life and death and how it is treated by different people. In the film, The Chamber more about relationships. " ââ¬ËThe film is about a young man, very alone in the world, connecting with his grandfather and trying to understand who he is.' " (Greer 4). Despite the differences between the two, The Chamber proves to show a political message on the infliction of the death penalty in America.

Fashion is a general term for a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body piercing or furniture. ââ¬Å"Fashionâ⬠refers to a distinctive; however, often-habitual trend in a look and dress up of a person, as well as to prevailing styles in behavior. ââ¬Å"Fashionâ⬠usually is the newest creations made by designers and are bought by only a few number of people; however, often those ââ¬Å"fashionsâ⬠are translated into more established trends. [1] The more technical term, ââ¬Å"costume,â⬠has become so linked in the public eye with the term ââ¬Å"fashionâ⬠that the more general term ââ¬Å"costumeâ⬠has in popular use mostly been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while the term ââ¬Å"fashionâ⬠means clothing generally, and the study of it. For a broad cross-cultural look at clothing and its place in society, refer to the entries for clothing, costume, and fabrics. A. Couture Beginnings The first fashion designer who was not merely a dressmaker was Charles Frederick Worth (1826ââ¬â1895). Before the former draper set up his maison de couture (fashion house) in Paris, clothing design and creation was handled by largely anonymous seamstresses, and high fashion descended from styles worn at royal courts. Worthââ¬â¢s success was such that he was able to dictate to his customers what they should wear, instead of following their lead as earlier dressmakers had done. B. Early Twentieth Century Throughout the early 20th century, practically all high fashion originated in Paris and to a lesser extent London. Fashion magazines from other countries sent editors to the Paris fashion shows. Department stores sent buyers to the Paris shows, where they purchased garments to copy (and openly stole the style lines and trim details of others). Both made-to-measure salons and ready-to-wear departments featured the latest Paris trends, adapted to the storesââ¬â¢ assumptions about the lifestyles and pocket books of their targeted customers. 1990s * The outfits worn by the fashionable women of the ââ¬ËBelle Ãâ°poqueââ¬â¢ (as thisà era was called by theFrench) were strikingly similar to those worn in the heyday of the fashion pioneer Charles Worth. By the end of the 19th-century, the horizons of the fashion industry had generally broadened, partly due to the more stable and independent lifestyle many well-off women were beginning to adopt and the practical clothes they demanded. However, the fashions of the La Belle Ãâ°poque still retained the elaborate, upholstered, hourglass-shaped style of the 19th century. As of yet, no fashionable lady could (or would) dress or undress herself without the assistance of a third party. The constant need for radical change, which is now essential for the survival of fashion within the present system, was still literally unthinkable. The use of different trimmings were all that distinguished one season from the other. 1910s * During the early years of the 1910s the fashionable silhouette became much more lithe, fluid and soft than in the 19th century. When the Ballets Russes performedScheherazade in Paris in 1910, a craze for Orientalism ensued. The couturier Paul Poiret was one of the first designers to translate this vogue into the fashion world. Poiretââ¬â¢s clients were at once transformed into harem girls in flowing pantaloons, turbans, and vivid colors and geishas in exotic kimono. Paul Poiret also devised the first outfit which women could put on without the help of a maid. The Art Deco movement began to emerge at this time and its influence was evident in the designs of many couturiers of the time. Simple felt hats, turbans, and clouds of tulle replaced the styles of headgear popular in the 20th century. It is also notable that the first real fashion shows were organized during this period in time, by Jeanne Paquin, one of the first female couturiers, who was also the first Parisian couturier to open foreign branches in London, Buenos Aires, and Madrid.

According to Paul Wolf, one to two million people have been displaced from their homes by the violence and live in poverty in refugee camps. Two-thirds of them are children. Thousands of people are assassinated, kidnapped and disappeared in Colombia every year in this political violence. The Colombian conflict has drawn the attention of the United Nations and the international human rights community. I feel that Americas war on drugs in Colombia is a false portrayal. Both the Colombian government and the Bush administration have oversimplified the causes of the violence, linking it readily to drug traffickers and undermining the role of the military and paramilitary groups. While successive Colombian presidents have made good faith efforts to control the killing, they failed to acknowledge the relationship between senior military officers, paramilitary groups and the drug traffickers. The CIA however, is evidently linked to drug trafficking in Colombia, as well as other parts of the western world. The article stated that: "In ever y county of the King's realm shall be elected three knights and one clerk, to keep the pleas of the Crown" To each county, thus, were assigned three coroners and a clerk who carried the "Coroner's Rolls", although the clerk's office too was later to be replaced by another, a fourth coroner. The coroner's duties were not with a reward in terms of money: they were never paid for their services to the crown, and it was an offence for them to receive any rewards by virtue of their office. To keep them from indulging in embezzlement, to prevent which was why their office came to being, Walter decree that their appointment was dependent on a certain property level, and a least of an income twenty pounds a year. The Medieval Coroner: Duties The coroner's main duties were twin-pronged; he was the tax-collector as well as the person who would keep a criminal record of territories that came under the jurisdiction of the Royal Courts of Law. The general Eyre was the body that would go around the kingdom, primarily taking stock of the misbehaviours of the subjects. The subjects were required to keep a track of all the incidents that have occurred in this account and relate them with complete honesty to the coroner. The coroner would note these down, and hand them over to the General Eyre; the Justices in the Eyre would hand out fines and punishments. The coroner takes on the role of a tax-collector because the large fines, the amercements, were viewed more as a kind of tax than as a way of punishment by the people. As has previously been mentioned, this was also the primary manner in which large revenues were being collected for the Royal Treasury. The ability to extract these sums was largely dependent on the details provi ded by the coroner. This ensured his presence in all kinds of events where fines, sureties and taxes could be levied, and property and goods be forfeited. This role of the coroner has taken a backseat and his second main duty that of investigating unnatural and suspicious deaths makes the coroner's identity today; sudden deaths, accidental deaths, natural deaths, suicides, murder and manslaughter, all these came under the coroner's duties.
